The Nassau County Police Department reported that the incident happened on Wednesday, July 14, at 3:15 p.m. in Inwood.
Officers saw a 2001 Nissan that was southbound on Sheridan Boulevard, according to police.
Police said the vehicle had a temporary license plate and failed to maintain a lane.
Officers reportedly pulled the vehicle over, and during the traffic stop, they recovered a handgun. Police said the passenger, Jamel Thompson, age 41, of Queens, tried to run away and resisted arrest before he was brought into custody.
Police said one officer hurt his knee during the incident, and he was taken to a hospital.
Authorities said Karyim Brown, age 37, of Queens, stayed at the scene during the investigation.
Police said Brown was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Thompson was charged with:
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon,
- Two third-degree counts of criminal possession of a weapon,
- Criminal possession of a firearm,
- Second-degree assault, resisting arrest,
- Obstructing governmental administration.
Both men were scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, July 15.
